The Roads for Development Program Phase 2 (R4D2) and the Public Works Department (PWD) have improved the roads from Lamen Bay to Moriu in Epi using fibre reinforced concrete pavements.
Epi Island is an agriculture base for Vanuatu and has been threatened by climate change. Acting Division Manager for Shefa said “Before the existing roads from Lamen Bay to Moriu were inaccessible, with steep hills, during rainy weather the roads were impassable”.
Louisa Here George, Shefa Division Manager, on behalf of PWD thanked the R4D2 Program for funding Small Scale Contractors (SSCs) so that now surrounding communities from Lamen Bay to Moriu are able to access in a timely way health-care, schools, wharfs and the airport, and markets to sell produce. I am very happy to hear from my baby sitter who said her son who lives in Epi said mum, before we used to walk from Lamen Bay to Moriu but now a truck will just take us to Moriu”.
Steep hills from Rovo Bay – Moriu have been improved achieving an all-weather passable road
