ID87: PWD improves Livelihoods in West and East Tanna

The Kormanu Road in West and East Tanna was categorised as Class 3 and 4 road under the Road Classification tool used by PWD. Under this classification, road conditions are very rough and impassable during rainy seasons. Historically it had increased maintenance cost to repair road gullies caused by erosion along this section and also contributes to increased vehicle operating (VOC) and maintenance cost.

To address this issue PWD through Roads for Development Program (R4D2) designed a 495meters Fiber Reinforced concrete pavement.

This intervention has made village life and tourism tours and adventures much easier. The investment has impacted 8000+ population which aligns with National Sustainable Development Plan (2016-2030) which in particular addresses Climate and Disaster Resilience, Improvement of Infrastructure with secondary benefits to create jobs and business opportunities. Overall, it has contributed to 1% increase to the total Network of concrete Road in Tafea Province.
