ID217: Medium Term Plan (MTP) for Shefa Division

The Shefa PWD division conducted its Medium-Term Plan Consultation (MTP) in all islands in the Shefa Province with declared public roads.  Shefa Province Division Site Engineer, Mrs Luisa Here George said that previously, PWD only did annual plans, and there were no island-level consultations conducted. So this activity is the first of its kind.

This time, PWD has involved road users and community chiefs in the MTP and Annual Work Plan (AWP) processes especially in the prioritization of projects to be included in both plans.  The Roads for Development Program Phase 2 (R4D2) provided PWD staff advice to complete these plans. The MTP and AWP are consistent with the Vanuatu’s Public Roads Policy.

As a result of the consultation in Shefa province, road condition of all road sections in the islands were assessed and recorded. This allowed the planning process of PWD to be more proactive. Road users in the Shefa Division are now being made aware of PWD’s long-term plans in line with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (MIPU) Cooperate Plan, MIPU Policy and PWD Public Roads Policy (PRP).
